Q: Can Your CT Insurer Drop You Just Because Your Roof Is Dirty?

A: Not without proof of roofing degradation or damage according to the State of Connecticut

  • By law, insurers have to give you at least 60 days’ notice and spell out the specific reason(s) for non-renewal. Vague phrases aren’t acceptable.
  •  Aerial images that show only cosmetic concerns can’t be the sole basis, and CT Insurance Department (CID) has said this practice “will not be tolerated.” Insurers need evidence of material damage or degradation that increases the risk of loss.

Below is a letter from the State of Connecticut on the subject matter.

A:

  • Soft Washing is the preferred method of Roof cleaning, as it uses a low pressure application of soaps to kill off any mold, algae, moss and lichen without damaging shingles, and Our method utilizes natural rainfall to rinse the dead growth off the roof.
  • Power Washing is too aggressive and uses High pressure which often damages shingles, and strips off granules and can void warranties.

Q: Power Washing vs Soft Washing for Roofs, Which is better?

Roof Washing FAQs

Q: How long does it take to come off my roof?

A: Depending on the amount and strength of rain storms after treatment, It may take several weeks, to several months for all of the moss and lichen to rinse off of the roof shingles.

**On Day of Wash upon completion of spray treatment you will notice all black streaking on the roof dissipating, and all lichen and moss will change colors from the shades of green, to more of a pale color that will turn more of a brown color as it dries up and will naturally rinse off.**
